How to Start Every Day Calm in 2025
Have you been wishing you and your family could start every day calm?
I know this makes a huge difference to how my day runs (it goes a lot more smoothly if everyone is calm before they leave the house) so I wanted to share a couple of really simple hacks I use to start the day calm:
1. Get up before the kids
I know, this one sucks. Every day when my alarm goes off, I really want to keep my eyes closed and stay asleep, BUT I know that things will run a lot smoother at my place if I’m up at least an hour before my child is.
I use this time to do some exercise, get lunches ready and organise whatever I need for the day.
Just as a side note – I never look at my phone until AFTER I’ve done the school drop or everyone is ready for the day (at the very least, if there’s time). I find this really helps me to keep focused on the important things that really need to be done first thing.
I actually put my phone on charge when I first get up in the morning to take away the temptation (I don’t charge it over night).
2. Have a calm activity ready for when the kids wake up
This is super simple and easy to set up. While the kids are waiting for breakfast, have a calm activity ready for them to practice, somewhere obvious they will see it.
For example, pop their Calming Cards at the end of their bed (so they see them as soon as they wake up!) or place a sheet from your Printable Calm Colour Kit along side a set of pencils at the breakfast table ready for them to colour in (it keeps them busy while you make breakfast too ;))
If you want to give this a try, make sure you download the FREE Deep Breathing Colour-In Sheet (scroll down to the bottom of this article to get it delivered to your inbox).
3. Keep Your Goodbye Calm
We keep this super simple by exchanging a hug and a kiss and popping some “extra” hugs and kisses in each others pockets (so we can reach into our pockets if we need a hug or kiss during the day when we’re not with each other).
This is also a great opportunity to help your child select a Calm Sticker to pop on their shirt or hand in case they need a reminder to use their calming techniques during the day.
Do you have some specific techniques that help you and your family start off the day calm? I’d love to hear about them.
If you have the chance to try out any of the techniques I mentioned above I would love to hear how you go! Comment at the bottom of this page or pop an email through to me dominique@ohbeehave.com.au
