Did you know, the most important time to teach your child calming techniques, is when they are calm?

Yep, that’s right. Most parents will wait until their child is in the middle of a meltdown or tantrum before they prompt them to try a calming technique (like deep breathing). While this is great, and calming techniques can definitely help, they are most effective when the child has the opportunity to practice them BEFORE they have a tantrum or meltdown.

Practicing calming techniques each day (at the start of the day, before there have been any tantrums or meltdowns) gives your child the skills they need to recover from their challenging emotions before they experience them.

Once they know and have practiced calming skills, they are able to draw on them in the moments when they feel less than calm. Of course, it takes a lot of time and practice (just like learning any new skill) which is why I want to help you and your child start learning calming techniques with my free Deep Breathing Printable… scroll down to download your free printable and help your child develop the skills they need to recover from their most challenging emotions.

How Calming Cards Can Help You

Calming Cards help you teach your child the skills they need to recover from their most challenging emotions. The cards introduce your child to 10 different calming techniques.

These unique cards help you and your child identify which calming techniques suit them best so they can practice the technique that works for them.

With practice, the technique suited to your child becomes so ingrained in their brain that they no longer need the cards to prompt them.

Calming Cards help your child develop their resilience to a point where their preferred calming technique becomes part of their natural response mechanism to overwhelming thoughts, experiences and emotions.

Calming Cards are Unique

Calming Cards do not feature sayings or inspirational quotes that you need to look at every day or commit to memory to have an impact.

The calming techniques included are designed to teach teach life-long calming skills that, once learnt, can be drawn on when needed (without the continued prompt of the cards).

Techniques featured on the cards include Deep Breathing, Muscle Relaxation, Grounding, Visualisation, Yoga and Mindfulness.

As a parent, you want to give your child all the support you can to manage and recover from challenging thoughts, experiences and emotions. You do this through co-regulation. Supporting and comforting your child in their times of distress. But it is impossible to be with your child every moment of every day, and to support them through every single challenging thought, experience or emotion they have. Calming Cards give your child the skills they need to build their resilience when navigating those challenging moments.

Give your kids the skills they need to recover from their most challenging emotions.
