How to Reduce Your Child’s Chocolate Intake This Easter
The last couple of years I’ve been trying out different techniques to reduce chocolate intake over Easter and there’s a couple of techniques I’ve found that have really helped (so I thought I would share them in case you’re looking for ways to reduce chocolate intake for your family too!)
1. Chocolate is only delivered by the Easter Bunny
I’ve found this the easiest strategy for reducing chocolate intake. For example, in our family we have one Easter Egg that is delivered by the Easter Bunny and then a handful of Easter Eggs that the Easter Bunny hides for an Easter Hunt.
2. Gift non-chocolate items to kids
We’ve been doing this in our family for a few years now and I’ve spoken to a few other families who have found it works well for them too.
We tend to give a toy or similar (usually my Mr 5 will nominate exactly what he wants – haha!), but I know of other families that give PJ’s or soft toys as an alternative to chocolates (this year I’ve found a recipe book which my Mr 5 has been asking for if you’re looking for a handy idea)!
3. Create home-made treats
This is one handy way to reduce the sugar content of the Easter treats in your house. Home-made treats can be a healthy alternative to store-bought chocolates at Easter time (and a fun activity to keep the kids busy too).
