“My Bad Habits

Lead to Poo”

“My Bad Habits Lead to Poo” – How Ed Sheeran Can Help You With Toilet Training

At the start of every year, and each time a new parent joins my email list I send an email asking them what their greatest parenting challenge is.

I respond to each of these emails with personalised tips and techniques AND I also use the topics that are raised to send out new strategies to my email list and update my website.

One of the topics that came up at the start of this year was toilet training.

There are a ton of different techniques that you can use to help support your child through the toilet training process (and I will share more through the year), but one of my favourite ones is having a funny song, rhyme or “toilet talk” words that your child can use when they are using the toilet (it’s also a great way to reduce toilet talk outside of toileting time as kids love to use toilet related words whenever they get the chance!)

My Mr 5 really loves toilet talk (like most 5 year olds!) and a while back, he decided he would re-write the catchy “Bad Habits” song by Ed Sheeran:

"My bad habits lead to late nights pooping alone, conversations with butt heads, I barely know, swearing this will be the last, but it probably won't. I've got nothing left to lose, or use, or poo my bad habits lead to poo."

(are you cringing? I was, when I typed that out) and I’ve got to be honest, it has REALLY ruined the song for me (and I’m sorry if it’s ruined it for you too!) but, it has been a great way to encourage toileting (particularly “tactical wee’s”) and reduced toileting accidents & toilet talk – because he’s only allowed to sing it in the toilet!

If you’re looking for some catchy tunes your little ones can listen to (and you don’t want to risk your little one re-writing one of your favourite songs) or sing to encourage their toileting, jump onto spotify (another favourite of ours is the “Cat Flushing the Toilet” song) – but there are plenty of others out there!

Until next week, I would love to know – are you looking for more tips to help with toilet training? If you have a chance to try this one out during the week, I’d love to hear how you go (comment at the bottom of this page or pop an email through to me dominique@ohbeehave.com.au)!
